Lake Nakuru National Park- Kenya Self Drive Trips
Lake Nakuru National Park is located in the central part of Kenya on the floor of the great Rift Valley in the Northwestern side of Nairobi. Lake Nakuru has recently been among the most visited National Parks in Kenya. The Nakuru National Park was first declared as a conservation area for the birds at Lake Nakuru like Flamingos in 1957 and conserved area only included Lake Nakuru and small parts of the surrounding areas. This was done to preserve the Lake, reduce on the pollution of the lake and conserve the bird life that was blooming on Lake Nakuru.
The bird sanctuary was then declared later in 1961 which is the current southern section of Nakuru National Park and different protocols introduced to ensure a bird sanctuary is given protection and security was enforced in the place. Other animals like giraffes were later brought from to the park from western Kenya. The rhinos were the brought in Lake Nakuru by 1980 and a Rhino sanctuary was later designed to conserve the animals to protect them. The park has other animals and over 400 bird species living in the park
