NYUNGWE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
This national park is located in the southwestern part of Rwanda bordering Burundi where it’s contagious with the Kibiri National Park. this national park is said to be a best preserved montane rainforest in the central Africa. Its located between River Congo to the west and the west of River Nile. This national park was established in 2004 and covers an area of 1019km2/ 393 square miles of rainforests of rainforest, bamboo, grassland, swamps and bogs. The nearest town is called Cyangugu 54km (34miles) to the west. Mountain Bigigu 2921, miles. In October 2020the Rwandan Development Centre signed and agreement with African Parks to assume management of Nyungwe National Park for an initial 20 years
Wildlife
The Nyungwe forest has a wide diversity of animal species making it a priority for conservation in Africa. The forest is situated in a region in which several large –scale biographical zones meet and the variety of terrestrial biomes provides great span of microhabitats for many different species of plants and animals. The park contains 13 primate species. Over 275 bird species, 1068 plant species 85 mammal species 32 amphibian and 38 reptile species. Many of these animals are restricted-range species that are only found in the Albertine Rift montane forests eco region in Africa. In fact, the number of endemic species found here is greater than in any other forest in the Albertine Rift Mountains that has been surveyed.

Chimp tracking
This national park has a large population of Chimpanzees. And many who visit the park often go on a chimpanzee tracking. It can be done all year round. The chimpanzees are not habituated like the gorillas so there is no guarantee of a sighting at the particular places. But more often than not you will find the chimpanzees because they are quiet common in the forest.
