The best time of the year to visit Madagascar is between September and December after the cool , dry winter but before the really hot rainy season . Lemurs give birth at this time , so there is a good chance of being able to see and photograph infants with their mothers. Birds are also most vocal and conspicuous at the time. Chameleons and other reptiles are least active between June and August , which is the coolest time of the year.
It’s an intimate encounter with Madagascar’s unique wildlife. The national parks and reserves are sanctuaries where you can marvel at the diverse fauna and flora, including several species of lemurs, which are surprisingly easy to spot in their natural habitat.
The cultural mosaic of Madagascar is equally attractive. Throughout your tour, you’ll have the chance to meet and learn about various ethnic groups, each with their own distinct traditions and way of life. Habituation Experience of Lemurs in Madagascar
Habituation of lemurs in Madagascar refers to the process of gradually acclimatizing wild lemurs to human presence, allowing researchers, conservationists, and ecotourists to observe and study them in their natural habitats.
This process is crucial for research purposes, especially in studying behavior, social interactions, and ecology. It also plays an important role in conservation efforts, especially when working with endangered species.
During the Habituation process, the lemurs are tamed to reduce their fear and avoidance of people. This takes several weeks or months, and lemurs are expected to become more comfortable with humans over time, reducing travel, alarm calls, and vigilance while dedicating more time to feeding, resting, and social interactions.
At this stage, humans may be able to get closer, but they should avoid any sudden movements or behaviors that could startle or stress the animals.
As the lemurs become less wary and more familiar with human presence, they may begin to ignore or tolerate it, continuing with their normal behaviors, such as foraging, grooming, or socializing.
