KIBALE NATIONAL PARK
Kibale national park is located in western Uganda about 348km from Kampala and about 26km South east of fort portal town with moist evergreen rain forest 766square kilometers
The forest covering predominate in central and northern part of the park on the raised Fort portal plateau. Kibaale stands highest at 1590m above the sea level at the northern tip.
This is one of the best safari destinations in the country and Africa at large for Chimpanzee trekking safaris, primate capital and have the highest number and diversity of primates in East Africa. There are 13 species of primates including chimpanzees living with its 795km2 land cover with most beautiful and most diversified tracts of tropical forest in the whole country
ACTIVITIES AT KIBALE NATIONAL PARK
Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park.
This is the common and the main activity carried out in Kibale National Park. This national Park harbors over 1500 chimpanzees. Like any other wildlife trekking, Chimpanzee trekking starts in early morning with a short briefing at Kanyachu visitors center for the guidelines during trekking. Everyone will be allocated a park guide to give knowledge about the chimpanzees and then take off to the jungle. The activity takes up to 4 hours depending on the location of the primates. In the due course species like black and white Colombus monkeys are spotted grey Mangabey monkeys and many others. Once the chimps are found, visitors will be given one hour to spend with them, see them feeding, breast feed mate, take photos learn about their behavior and recording best moments here is allowed for remembrance
Bird watching at Kibale National Park
Kibale National Park has over 375 bird species with both endemic and forest birds which has not been seen in any other game park in the country, migratory birds and local home birds make it a destination for bird watching
Bird watching is best done very early in the morning with experienced guides who will help in spotting different bird species at the park, bird her include waxbill, masked apalis, red winged francolin, ground thrush white bellied crested flycatcher. Habituated Chimpanzee experience at Kibale National Park
This an activity where the chimps are trained to get used of human presence for trekking without fear of dander. Chimpanzee habituation takes a period of two years before introduce to visitors for trekking. Like any other primate trekking, chimp trekking starts in the morning where by guides take you in the process to the habituated chimpanzees. The visitors will then spend up to four hours after finding them and that will offer an opportunity to see and study their behavior eating, breast feedings, making their nest, playing and this could live a story to tell in future and a good time to remember
Nocturnal forest walks in Kibale national park
Nocturnal forests walks are a processes where visitors are given a chance to have a walk and explore the park at night with well trained and experienced rangers and guides using powerful lights.
